Driving to your Myrtle Beach vacation can be a fun part of the adventure for your family. And having games ready to go can make the drive even more memorable. Here are our top 5 games the whole family can play during your drive to the Grand Strand:

ABC Game

One favorite road game to play is called, ABC Games. You play by using the letters on billboards and other road signs until you go through the whole alphabet. You start looking for the letter A and as you pass a sign, for example a road sign that says the word "entrance" on it, you would say “A on entrance” and move onto the next letter in the alphabet. The first person to finish the alphabet wins! One thing to remember is that you can't use the same word as someone else so be sure to declare your letter and the word it’s found on quickly before another family member can say it. This is a great and easy game way to keep occupied during your drive.

ISpy

I Spy is a classic guessing game that keys you into your surroundings. I Spy starts by having one player choose an object who gives clues to the rest of the group until someone correctly guesses the object. These clues start with the phrase, "I spy with my little eye something ..." and then they provide an adjective to describe the object. The person who guessed correctly is the one who gets to choose the next object. This is a really fun game that even younger travelers can play.

What if you are on a long stretch of road that doesn’t have any signs or landmarks? These next few games will do the trick!

The Name Game

The Name Game gives everyone the chance to show off their knowledge of famous people. The first player starts off the game by saying the name of someone famous, like “Elvis Presley.” The next player then names another famous person whose first name starts with the first letter of the last name of the previous famous person; for example, “Paul McCartney“ where the “P” in ”Paul” matches the ”P” in “Presley.”

20 Questions

Number 4 of our top 5 is the game of 20 Questions. One person in your party will think of an object. The goal of the game is for the other players to guess what the object is by asking 20 yes or no questions. The player who is are able to correctly guess the object with 20 questions or less wins. The winning player then gets to choose the next object to guess. If no one is able to guess the object in 20 questions, the player who picked the object tells the others what the object is and then gets to choose the next object.

The Category Game

This last game requires pens/pencils and paper and a little preparation. To prepare for this game, write a list of a few categories like ”animal, city, body part, vehicle, actor, clothing, sport, drink, “ etc on each piece of paper. After handing a paper with the list of categories to each player, choose a letter that each player will use to fill in each category. For example, if we were to start the game and play with the letter "G" we could list a “gopher, Georgetown,“ etc. until all the categories are filled in. This is a game that is less competitive, but is still very entertaining to hear all of the funny answers that everyone comes up with!

These games are a great way to help time to pass more quickly on your drive to your vacation. They also give you and your family a chance to connect and have fun together.
